Timun Mas - The Golden Cucumber Girl

The story starts with the meeting of Mbok Srini and Buto Ijo, a strong and mystical giant. Mbok Srini was an old widow who lived alone without children. Mbok Srini then asked Buto Ijo to bless her with a child.

Buto Ijo then gave her a seed of cucumber and asked Mbok Srini to take care of it. He asked Mbok Srini to vow that she would give the child that came out of the cucumber when the child have grown up.

Mbok Srini brought the cucumber seed and took care of it. The cucumber seed grows and a golden large cucumber came out of it. Mbok Srini opened the cucumber and found out that there's a beautiful baby girl inside it.

Mbok Srini named the baby Timun Mas that means golden cucumber. She raise the girl by herself like her own daughter. 17 years later, Buto Ijo came to Mbok Srini's house and asked her to fulfill her promise. With a stash of magic cucumber seeds, needles, and salt from her mother, Timun Mas run away.

In a rage, Buto Ijo chases after Timun Mas but Timun Mas manages to escape using the magic stuffs that her mother gave to her. Timun Mas then sprinkles salt around Buto Ijo that magically turned into an ocean. Buto Ijo then defeated because the ocean swallowed and drowned him.
